I had the tremendous honor of fulfilling the inscription in a copy of the “Roman Triptych” that reached me through Monsignor Hocevar. It read: “The frescoes were waiting for the words, and now the words are awaiting the sound”. His Holiness, John Paul II, was writing his verses, captivated by the frescoes of Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel. My music was a sincere gift to a man who wiped out the “stains” from the portraits of his predecessors, becoming the first Pontiff in the history of Papacy to publicly and in the name of the Holy Sea offer an apology for the Crusades, the Inquisition, forced conversions and escape channels for Nazis…a man whose honorable, brave and noble life put him shoulder to shoulder with the real, authentic heroes of 20th century, such as Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King.
